Your data, and what we do with it

To enter the Olympiad you give us your name, your university, your CV and your work. You also take the assessment on Ruliax, our assessment partner's platform. This page explains what we collect, where it goes and what you can ask us to do about it.
Who we are
The CORE Olympiad Organizing Committee is responsible for the data described on this page. Write to team@coreolympiad.org with any question about it, including a request to see or delete what we hold. A person reads that address.
What we collect
We collect what registration and the examination need, and nothing else. There is no tracking on this site: no analytics, no advertising pixels and no third-party scripts.
- Your account. Your email address, and a password if you chose one. Passwords are stored as a hash, so nobody here can read yours.
- Your registration. Full name, university, country, degree level, year of study and field of study.
- Your handle. The name you chose to appear under. We publish results against your handle rather than your name.
- Your CV or résumé. Registration requires one.
- Any other work you upload. Reports, project write-ups, schematics, notebooks, slides or code. This is optional.
- Links you give us. GitHub, LinkedIn or a personal site. All optional.
- Your assessment record. Your answers, your score, and how you worked through the paper. There is more on this below.
- Your answers on the registration form, including whether you opened our YouTube channel.
- A record of your consent. Which permissions you gave, and when.
Your CV and your other uploads are stored privately. Only your own account and we can read them. They are never visible to other entrants, and never available to anyone with a link.
Signing in with Google, GitHub or LinkedIn
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, your email address and your Google account identifier. If you sign in with GitHub, we receive your name, your email address and your GitHub username, which we use to fill in the GitHub field on your registration. You can change or clear it. If you sign in with LinkedIn, we receive your name and your email address. LinkedIn does not give us your profile address, so you fill that in yourself.
That is all we receive. We do not get your password. We cannot read your email, your files, your repositories or your contacts, and we ask for no permission that would let us. We use this information to create your account and to let you sign back in. We never sell it and never use it for advertising.
Why we collect it
- To run the Olympiad. Your registration is how we issue a paper to a real person and attribute the result. Without it there is no entry.
- To contact you. We write to you about your entry, the examination and your result.
- Because you agreed. Assessment uses the required consent. Industry opportunities and a Ruliax profile each require their own optional consent. You can withdraw either optional choice without affecting entry.
Ruliax, our assessment partner
Ruliax provides technical infrastructure supporting participant assessment and competition operations. The registration and work needed for assessment are shared with Ruliax under the required assessment consent.
Receiving industry opportunities and creating a Ruliax engineering profile are separate, optional choices. Neither affects eligibility, assessment, or rankings. Earlier bundled consent is not treated as a separate recruiting opt-in; participants must make the optional choice explicitly in the updated registration form.
Taking the assessment
You sit the paper on ruliax.com. You reach it from your account page here, and your details are already there because they were synced when you registered.
The paper is timed. While you work, the platform records your answers and how you reached them: the steps you took, the order you took them in, and how long you spent. Ruliax uses this to judge how you solve problems, not only whether you got the right number, and to check that the work is your own.
Papers are drawn from a question bank with the numbers randomised for each entrant. Your answers are marked by a program that checks them against the expected values. No AI model reads your paper.
Your profile on Ruliax
Ruliax is building a place where engineers are found for work by what they can show they can do. Only if you choose the separate, optional platform consent can your registration and Olympiad results be used to create your profile there.
On that profile you appear as your handle. Other members and employers do not see your name, your email address, your CV or your uploaded work. They see your assessed results and whatever you choose to publish. If you want an employer to have your identity or your documents, you decide that case by case.
Employers pay Ruliax to find engineers. That is how the platform makes money. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not pass your contact details to an employer without your agreement.
You can withdraw optional recruiting or platform consent by updating your registration or writing to us. Withdrawing either does not withdraw your competition entry. Contact us to remove a profile already shared with Ruliax.
Public cohort statistics
We publish aggregate completed-registration counts and distributions by university, country, discipline, academic stage, and selected competition. These do not identify individuals or include CVs. A distribution is withheld if any group contains fewer than five participants. University representation is not an institutional endorsement.
Industry partners do not receive access to a participant database. Partners may connect with participants who opt in to opportunities; sharing identity, contact details, CVs, or individual work with a company requires the participant's separate permission.
Our YouTube channel
We ask you to subscribe to our educational partner's YouTube channel, where the preparation material is published. We record only whether you opened the link. YouTube does not tell us who you are or whether you subscribed, and what you do there is covered by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
Who else sees your data
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone who is not named here.
- Ruliax, our assessment partner, as described above.
- Supabase, which hosts our database, our file storage and our sign-in system.
- Cloudflare, which serves this site and the registration app.
Supabase and Cloudflare hold your data because they run the machines. They have no other use for it.
Where we keep it
On servers in the United States. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, this means your data is transferred outside it. We rely on the standard contractual protections our providers offer for these transfers.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete it, we remove your account, your registration and your uploaded files within 30 days. We may keep a minimal record of results and rankings for the history of the competition. Tell us if you would rather we did not.
What you can ask for
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- show you everything we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and its contents;
- withdraw either optional consent without affecting your competition entry; withdrawing the required assessment consent prevents us from providing the assessment;
- send you your data in a portable form.
Write to team@coreolympiad.org. We do not charge for this and we do not ask for a reason. If you are in the UK or the EEA and you think we have handled your data badly, you can also complain to your national data protection authority.
Cookies
The registration app uses necessary authentication cookies to keep you signed in. There are no advertising cookies in the registration app.
Young entrants
We set no minimum age for the Olympiad. Entry depends on being at a university, so nearly every entrant is an adult, and a student who reached university early is welcome on the same terms as anyone else.
Data protection law is a separate question from who may compete. In the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, someone under 16 cannot agree on their own to their data being used the way this page describes. If you are under 16, read this page with a parent or guardian and register with them. If we find we are holding a young child’s data without that agreement, we delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so here and change the date at the top. If the change is material, such as a new recipient of your data, we will email you as well.
